Safebridge offers Transas ECDIS training
(Jan 18 2013)
Following the release of a third online course, Hamburg-based online training specialist, Safebridge, has unveiled its ECDIS familiarisation training package for the Transas Navi-Sailor 4000.
Using the Navi-Sailor software running in real time, the content follows the requirements set by the various flag states and provides 16-18 hours of study followed by an online test.
A manufacturer-approved certificate is delivered immediately and automatically upon a successful test completion. A completed IMO 1.27 generic training course is a pre-requisite to Safebridge's online ECDIS familiarisation training.
At 185 for a single log-in, the Safebridge training method is claimed to represent a cost-effective and highly flexible alternative to classroom training, as it also eliminates all travel and accommodation costs, while allowing a three-week window from first log-in to complete the course and the test.
Discount opportunities are available for fleet training, or prepaid packages.
"As the programme for the mandatory carriage of ECDIS progresses and more information is emerging from Port State Control checks, the need for effective, available and accessible ECDIS familiarisation training is becoming ever more apparent," said Ulf Steden, managing director of Safebridge.
"This latest release increases our ability to meet the market's needs for one of the major ECDIS manufacturers and we will be adding to our portfolio again in the very near future."
Transas was the first manufacturer to be recognised by the German Hydrographic and Maritime Agency as a commercial training provider.
"The Safebridge online type-specific training courseware is a great contribution to our portfolio of ECDIS training courses. Today, Transas offers all types of ECDIS training and having the possibility to train online gives even more flexibility to our customers," said Norman Geier, Transas Marine's training manager.
Safebridge is also developing courseware for a further four leading ECDIS manufacturers and these will be released over the coming months, the company said.
In addition, in response to the growing demand in ECDIS training and in order to contribute to the knowledge improvement on ECDIS use, Transas Marine has published an ECDIS Workbook, which can be used together with the Transas ECDIS demo software.
Both are available via a free download from the company's website.
